Aquatic Rehabilitation Center

The heated aquatic therapy opened in 2021 which first started therapy pool ion the state of kerala The multidisciplinary team of therapists provides aquatic therapy y treatments at NIPMR. The goal: to help a person with a physical, sensory, mental or intellectual disability reach an optimal level of functioning and independence.

The facility has 8METER X4METER pool with step with hand rail facility for the usage of adult and child care The facility also serves as an information, training and research centre for hydrotherapy.

The pool staff includes a certified pool operator whose job is to maintain water quality, a BLS certified pool assistant whose job is to maintain the safety of patients and aquatic therapists - physiotherapists, occupational therapists, - who provide aquatic therapy treatment individually or in groups, depending on the patient's medical condition.

Adjustments

The entrances to the pool are adapted for people with special needs: 1 hoist, adapted stairs, ladders, facility on the side of the pool. The floor is rough to prevent slipping and to prevent rubbing for those with sensitive skin or numbness.

  • Individual aquatic therapy treatments for patients as part of hospitalization, day hospitalization and ambulatory
  • Aquatic therapy -Orthopedics: Rehabilitation in water after road accidents, amputations, fractures.
  • Aquatic therapy--Neurology: Rehabilitation in water after a stroke - hemiplegia, spinal cord injury - quadriplegia, paraplegia, muscular dystrophy.
  • Aquatic therapy -Pediatrics: Water rehabilitation for children with developmental delays, preterm infants, cerebral palsy CP, PDD autism, ADHD.
  • Aquatic therapy -Rheumatology: Fibromyalgia, chronic pain.

There are several groups in the pool for various health conditions: back group, cardiovascular rehabilitation group (after a heart attack), knee group, shoulder group, water group for Parkinson's patients, group for people suffering from ankylosing spondylitis, group for chronic pain.
