Occupational therapists work with people suffering from physical, psychological, social and cognitive disabilities. The goal of an occupational therapist is to improve the Quality of Life of any given individual. This can be done by restoring function, teaching new skills, preventing a difficulty from occurring or training to maintain skills.

Occupational Therapy Department of NIPMR is also equipped with a unique Sensory garden and Sensory park, ultra- modern virtual reality unit, ADL apartment to train daily living skills and aquatic therapy units. A wing of OT department of NIPMR is functional at the Co-operative hospital, Irinjalakkuda.
An undergraduate degree programme in Occupational Therapy (Bachelor of Occupational Therapy ) has been started. It is a 4 & a half years course. The total intake of students is 20 students per academic year. The Course is affiliated to the Kerala University of Health Sciences, Thrissur.

Anna Daniel is working as an Assistant Professor for the BOT course and as an Occupational Therapist in National Institute of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (NIPMR). She has more than 12 years of professional experience in the field of Occupational Therapy. Her expertise is in the assessment and Occupational Therapy Management of children with Autism Spectrum Disorders, ADHD, Cerebral Palsy, Down Syndrome and other Neurodevelopmental Disorders. She is a certified Handwriting specialist and has extensive experience in working with children with Specific Learning Disorders, especially Dysgraphia. Anna has published papers in international journals. She had also developed a comprehensive Curriculum for Kindergarten.
